Compare the two rituals

Turkish Hammam vs Moroccan Hammam in Hurghada

Both are real, traditional bath rituals, both are 2 hours, both end in a 45-minute massage. The difference is in the soap, the scrub, the steam intensity, and how your skin feels at the end. Here is the honest comparison so you can pick the one that suits you.

What is a Turkish hammam?

A 2-hour ritual on a heated marble platform (the goebek tasi, or belly stone). The therapist warms you up on the marble, applies olive-soap foam in slow sweeping motions, exfoliates with a kessa glove, rinses you with copper bowls of warm water, and finishes with a 45-minute massage on a separate treatment table.

It is the more photogenic of the two, gentler on sensitive skin, and the easiest first-time hammam experience. EUR 20 per person.

What is a Moroccan hammam?

A 2-hour ritual that goes deeper. Beldi black soap is applied to the whole body and rested for 10 minutes to soften the skin, then a kessa scrub removes a noticeable layer of dead skin. After that, a ghassoul clay wrap purifies, and the program closes with a 45-minute argan-oil massage.

The Moroccan version exfoliates more aggressively than the Turkish one, which is why your skin feels noticeably smoother for two or three days afterwards. EUR 25 per person.

Which one should tourists choose?

  • Choose Turkish hammam if you have sensitive or sun-irritated skin, or if this is your first hammam ever. It is the gentler ritual and the most enjoyable introduction.
  • Choose Moroccan hammam if you want a proper deep exfoliation, especially after a few days of sun, sand and salt water. The result on the skin is the most dramatic.
  • Choose Cleopatra Plus if you want the whole sequence (sauna, jacuzzi, milk-and-honey bath, scrub, massage) in one program and cannot pick between the two hammams.

Best option for first-time visitors

First-timers are usually happiest with the Turkish hammam. The temperature is more moderate, the steam is gentler, the marble platform is photogenic, and the experience is the closest to what people picture when they think of a hammam. The Moroccan hammam is the better second visit.

FAQ

Are both hammams suitable for couples?
Yes. We arrange adjacent slots so both partners are in the same hammam at the same time, then in adjacent rooms for the massage finish.
Is the steam intense?
The Turkish hammam is warm but moderate, comparable to a Turkish bath in Istanbul. The Moroccan hammam is a similar temperature but the beldi soap step rests longer on the skin. Both are comfortable for first-time guests.
Will my skin be irritated afterwards?
No. The exfoliation removes a full layer of dead skin but the closing massage uses argan or aromatic oil to rehydrate. Most guests report skin feeling softer for two to three days.
Do I need a swimsuit?
A swimsuit is optional. Most guests bring one for the hammam portion; disposable underwear is provided if you prefer not to. The massage portion is in a closed private room.
How long is each program in total?
Both are 2 hours including the closing 45-minute massage. Add 30 to 45 minutes for the pickup if you are staying outside central Hurghada.
